Pointe-Noire is the second largest city and primary economic center in the Republic of the Congo. As of 2023, it has a population of approximately 1,420,612 inhabitants. The city is situated on a headland between Pointe-Noire Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, located near the national border with Angola.

Since the adoption of the 2002 constitution, Pointe-Noire has served as an autonomous department and a commune. Prior to this constitutional change, it functioned as the capital of the Kouilou region.
