Toumba is a city located in the Central African Republic.
In an archaeological context, Toumba is also a Greek term used to describe mounds in Thessaly, Greece. These mounds were created by Bronze and early Iron Age settlements. While they were initially identified as grave mounds, excavations beginning in the early 1900s revealed that most are actually the remains of settlements built over centuries from the collapse and rebuilding of timber-framed mudbrick structures.
These sites are considered to correspond to the Tell sites found in the Near East.
