Togo, officially known as the Togolese Republic, is a small tropical country located in West Africa. It extends north from the Gulf of Guinea to the border with Burkina Faso, spanning an area of approximately 57,000 square kilometres. The nation is bordered by Ghana to the west and Benin to the east.
The country has a population of roughly 8 million people and is characterized by its narrow geography, measuring less than 115 km (71 mi) in width between its western and eastern neighbors. It is currently classified as one of the least developed countries in the world.
