Bouar is a market town located in the western region of the Central African Republic. It serves as the capital of the Nana-Mambéré prefecture and is situated on a plateau at an elevation of approximately 1000 meters above sea level.
The city lies along the primary road connecting Bangui, which is 437 km to the east, to the border with Cameroon, located 210 km to the west. As of recent data, Bouar has a population of 40,353, while the broader sous-préfecture has a total population of 96,595.
One of the city's most notable characteristics is its role as the site of Camp Leclerc, which functions as a French military base.
