Lubumbashi, formerly known as Élisabethville, is the second-largest city in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is situated in the southeasternmost part of the country, located near the border with Zambia.
The city serves as the capital and principal urban center of the Haut-Katanga Province. It functions as a primary hub for mining in the region, hosting many of the nation's largest mining companies. As of 2021, the population of Lubumbashi's urban area was estimated to be approximately 2,584,000.
