Yellowknife is the capital and largest community in Canada's Northwest Territories. It serves as the only city within this territory and is situated on the northern shore of Great Slave Lake.
The city is located on the west side of Yellowknife Bay, near the outlet of the Yellowknife River. Geographically, it sits approximately 400 kilometres (250 miles) south of the Arctic Circle.
