Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu is a city located in the eastern Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. It is situated approximately 40 kilometres southeast of Montreal, positioned roughly halfway between the city and the border with Vermont. The municipality straddles both the west and east banks of the Richelieu River at the northernmost navigable point of Lake Champlain.
The city has experienced steady population growth, with a recorded count of 97,873 residents in the 2021 Census. It is notable for hosting the annual International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, a hot air balloon event that attracts thousands of tourists each year.
