Port Colborne is a city located in the Niagara Region of Southern Ontario, Canada. It sits on the shores of Lake Erie at the southern terminus of the Welland Canal. The city had a population of 20,033 as of 2021.
The original settlement was established in 1832 as Gravelly Bay. It was later renamed Port Colborne in honor of Sir John Colborne, a British war hero who served as the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada during the opening of the new southern terminus of the First Welland Canal in 1833.
