Oshawa is a city located in Southern Ontario, Canada, situated along the shoreline of Lake Ontario. It is positioned approximately 60 kilometres east of downtown Toronto and serves as the eastern anchor of both the Greater Toronto Area and the Golden Horseshoe region.
The city is the largest municipality within the Regional Municipality of Durham. Its name is derived from the Ojibwa term aazhawe, which translates to "the crossing place" or "a cross."
