Edmonton is the capital city of the Canadian province of Alberta. It is situated on the North Saskatchewan River and serves as the primary center of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region, which is located within Alberta's central region.
The city is positioned approximately 290 kilometres (180 mi) north of Calgary. It anchors the northern end of the "Calgary–Edmonton Corridor," a geographic area defined by Statistics Canada.
