Njinga refers to a historical figure rather than a city in Botswana. Njinga Ana de Sousa Mbande was a southwest African paramount ruler who served as the queen of the Ambundu Kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba from 1624 to 1663.
The kingdoms she ruled are located in what is now present-day northern Angola. Born into the ruling family of Ndongo, Njinga was the granddaughter of King Ngola Kilombo Kia Kasenda.
