Mopipi is a village located in the Central District of Botswana. It is situated in close proximity to the Makgadikgadi Pan and was named after the Mopipi tree, which is commonly found throughout the region. According to the 2001 census, the village had a population of 3,066 residents.
The surrounding area has undergone steady acidification and desertification since the Pleistocene epoch, with more dramatic changes occurring since the 19th century. Historically, the Boteti River flowed through this region year-round on its way to discharge into the Makgadikgadi Pans; however, the river now only flows during the rainy season.
