Garanhuns is a Brazilian municipality situated in the Agreste region of the state of Pernambuco. Located approximately 230 kilometers from the state capital of Recife, the city covers a total area of 458.552 km². It serves as the principal and most populous municipality within the Garanhuns Immediate Geographic Region and belongs to the Caruaru Intermediate Geographic Region.
According to the 2022 Census conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Garanhuns has an estimated population of approximately 142,506 inhabitants. This population figure ranks it as the ninth most populous municipality in Pernambuco, the third most populous in the state's interior, and the second most populous in the Pernambucan Agreste region.
