Goiânia is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Goiás. It serves as a major urban center in the country's Central-West Region, ranking as the second-largest city in that area and the 10th-largest city in Brazil overall. The metropolitan area surrounding the city has a population of approximately 2,890,418, making it the 12th-largest metropolitan region in the nation.
The city covers an area of roughly 739 square kilometres and is characterized by a continuous geography primarily composed of flat lands. While there are some hills and lowlands within its boundaries, much of the territory is level, particularly along the Meia Ponte River as well as the Botafogo and Capim Puba streams.
