São Cristóvão is a Brazilian municipality located in the northeastern state of Sergipe. Founded on January 1, 1590, at the mouth of the Vaza-Barris River, it holds the distinction of being the fourth oldest settlement in Brazil.
The city is primarily recognized for its preservation of early colonial-period architecture and its historic São Francisco Square. Due to these historical features, a 3-hectare site within the municipality was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.
