Aracaju is the capital city of the state of Sergipe, located in northeastern Brazil. It is situated approximately 350 km (217 mi) north of Salvador. As of a 2020 estimate, the city has a population of 664,908 inhabitants, which accounts for roughly 33% of the state's total population.
The city is part of a larger metropolitan area that includes the municipalities of Barra dos Coqueiros, Nossa Senhora do Socorro, and São Cristóvão. A notable landmark in the city is the Metropolitan Cathedral Nossa Senhora da Conceiçao, which is dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception and serves as the archiepiscopal see of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Aracaju.
