Nova Odessa is a municipality located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is situated within the Metropolitan Region of Campinas and covers a total area of 73.79 km2. As of recent data, the city has a population of 62,019 residents.
The city was founded on May 24, 1905, by Carlos José de Arruda Botelho, who served as the Secretary of Agriculture for the state of São Paulo. The initial settlement was populated primarily by immigrants from Latvia and Jewish-Ukrainian backgrounds. Despite these origins, the municipality's name is derived from a visit Botelho made to the city of Odesa, Ukraine, where he chose to replicate its street style.
