Mogi das Cruzes is a municipality located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Situated approximately 40 km east of the capital city of São Paulo, it serves as part of the metropolitan region. The municipality covers an area of 713 km² and has a population of 451,505 residents.
Founded in 1560 by the bandeirantes, the sprawling municipality includes significant rural areas and forms the easternmost arm of the São Paulo conurbation. The suburban core is defined by the César de Souza and Brás Cubas districts, which function as the center of town and a city within the municipality located east of the built-up area of Suzano.
