Itatiba is a municipality located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Situated approximately 80 km from the state capital, it is part of the Metropolitan Region of Campinas. The city covers an area of 322.269 km² and had a population of 121,590 according to the 2022 Census. It sits at an average elevation of 750 meters.
The name Itatiba originates from the Tupi Guarani language and translates to "Many Rocks." Due to its rugged terrain, the city is commonly referred to as the "Princess of the Hill." Historically, it was recognized in the 1970s as the colonial-style furniture capital of Brazil.
In terms of development, Itatiba ranked as the ninth city with the highest quality of life in Brazil in 2018, according to the Industry Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN), which reported a Municipal Development Index of 0.8779. The municipality is also home to Zooparque, one of the largest thematic zoos in Latin America.
