Itapecerica da Serra is a municipality located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is situated within the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo at an altitude of 920 meters (3,020 feet) above sea level. The city is positioned approximately 23 miles southwest of the capital city of São Paulo.

The municipality covers a total area of 150.74 square kilometers (58.20 square miles) and has a population of 158,522 residents. Its name is derived from a combination of terms: "Itapecerica" is believed to originate from the Tupi language meaning slippery stone, while "da Serra" translates to "of the Mountains" in Portuguese.
