Guaratinguetá is a municipality located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is situated within the Vale do Paraíba region and forms part of the Metropolitan Region of Vale do Paraíba e Litoral Norte. The city covers a total area of 752.64 km² and has a population of 118,044 residents.
The name of the city originates from the Tupi language, derived from the words gûyra (heron), tinga (white), and etá, which together form Gûyratinguetá. The region is notable for having been home to several prominent figures, including Brazilian President Rodrigues Alves, cardiologist Dr. Euryclides de Jesus Zerbini, and Saint Frei Galvão.
