Botucatu is a city located in the southeastern region of Brazil within the state of São Paulo. It is situated approximately 224.8 km (139.7 mi) from the state capital, São Paulo. The city covers an area of 1,482.64 km2 (572 sq mi) and has an estimated population of 145,155.

The geography of Botucatu features elevations ranging from 756 to 920 metres above sea level. Historically, the settlement was established as a village in 1855 before officially becoming a city in 1876.
