Birigui

Birigui is a city located in the northwestern region of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. As of the 2020 IBGE census, the municipality has a population of 124,883 inhabitants and covers a total area of 530.9 km2.

The name Birigui originates from the Tupi–Guarani language and translates to "little fly." This etymology refers specifically to the Lutzomyia fly, which is highly common in the local area. The city is notably recognized for its children's footwear industry.
