Assis is a city and municipality located in the southwestern region of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. It covers an area of 460.61 km² and has a population of 101,409. The town was founded on July 5, 1905, and officially became a municipality in 1917 after separating from Platina. It is situated approximately 434 km from the state capital of São Paulo.
The city serves as the largest urban center of its microregion and ranks second within its mesoregion. The local climate features an annual average temperature of 21.37 °C and receives about 1,441 mm of rainfall per year. The surrounding landscape is characterized by a transition zone between Mata Atlântica and Cerrado vegetation.
Assis maintains a Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.805, which is considered high relative to the state average. This index places the city in 28th place among all Brazilian cities.
