Florianópolis is the capital and second-largest city of the state of Santa Catarina, located in the South Region of Brazil. The city's geography encompasses Santa Catarina Island, several surrounding small islands, and a portion of the mainland. As of the 2022 Brazilian census, the city has a population of 537,211, making it the second-most populous city in its state and the 39th largest in Brazil.

The metropolitan area of Florianópolis has an estimated population of 1,111,702, ranking as the 21st largest in the country. The city is notably recognized for its high quality of life, holding the third-highest Human Development Index score among all Brazilian cities with a value of 0.847.
