Uruguaiana is a city and municipality located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. It is situated on the eastern shore of the Uruguay River, which serves as a border with Argentina. The city is notable for its international connectivity, specifically its proximity to the Argentine city of Paso de los Libres, Corrientes, which it shares a road and railway bridge with.
The municipality is characterized by its unique geographical position as one of the few Brazilian triple-border municipalities, bordering Argentina, Uruguay, and other Brazilian territories. To the north, Uruguaiana is connected to the municipality of Itaqui via an 1888 British-constructed bridge over the Ibicuí River. It also shares borders with the Brazilian municipalities of Alegrete, Barra do Quaraí, and Quaraí.
