Nova Friburgo, often referred to simply as Friburgo, is a municipality located in the state of Rio de Janeiro in southeastern Brazil. It is situated within the mountainous region of the state's Center Mesoregion, positioned approximately 136 km (85 mi) from the capital city of Rio de Janeiro.
The town sits at an elevation of 846 m (2,776 ft) above sea level and covers a total area of 933 km2. As of recent data, the municipality has a population of 189,939 residents.
