Japeri is a municipality located in the state of Rio de Janeiro within the Southeast Region of Brazil. The city was officially founded on June 30, 1991.
The municipality is situated adjacent to the final station of the largest branch of the Brazilian railroad system. This historic railway, constructed in 1858 and incorporated into the Central do Brasil in 1903, has been featured on Brazilian stamps. It served as the initial stop for trains traveling toward São Paulo, including the well-known Trem de Prata.
The district of Engenheiro Pedreira within Japeri is home to Brazil's first public golf course. This facility was established under the sponsorship of the Golf Federation of Rio de Janeiro (FGERJ).
