Castanhal is a city located in the Pará region of northern Brazil. It is situated near the eastern edge of the state, approximately 65 km east of the capital, Belém, and about 50 km inland southeast of the Bay of Marajó. The city is accessible by car or bus via federal highway BR-316.
With a population of around 200,000 residents, Castanhal ranks as the fifth largest city in the state of Pará. The region experiences a tropical rainforest climate.
