Nova Lima is a municipality located in the Minas Gerais region of southeastern Brazil. It has a population of approximately 121,000 people and is situated about 20 kilometers south of Belo Horizonte, which serves as the state capital.
The city's economy is primarily driven by mining activities, specifically the extraction of gold and iron ore. One of its most notable landmarks is the Morro Velho mine, a significant gold mining site that reaches a depth of 2,700 metres (8,900 ft).
