Montes Claros is a Brazilian municipality located in the northern region of the state of Minas Gerais. It is situated approximately 422 km (262 mi) north of the state capital, Belo Horizonte.
The municipality covers a total area of 3,589.811 km² (1,386.034 sq mi), with an urban area encompassing 73.51 km². According to the 2022 census, Montes Claros has a population of 414,240 residents, making it the fifth most populous municipality in the state of Minas Gerais.
