Ipatinga

Ipatinga is a Brazilian municipality situated in the interior of the state of Minas Gerais within the Southeast Region of Brazil. It is located in the Vale do Rio Doce and forms part of the Vale do Aço Metropolitan Region, positioned approximately 210 km east of the state capital. The municipal seat is notably located near the confluence of the Piracicaba River and the Doce River.

The municipality covers an area of just over 160 km², with roughly 40 km² designated as urban area. As of 2025, Ipatinga had an estimated population of 235,311 inhabitants, ranking it as the eleventh most populous municipality in the state of Minas Gerais.
