Sorriso

Brazil

Sorriso is a municipality located in the state of Mato Grosso within the Central-West Region of Brazil. The city's name translates literally to "smile" in Portuguese.

The origin of the name is derived from Italian immigrants who settled in the region for rice cultivation. Because they only cultivated rice, the phrase "só riso" (meaning "only rice") was used, which eventually merged over time to form the official name of the city.
