Barra do Garças is a city located in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, situated approximately 550 km (340 mi) from the state capital, Cuiabá. It currently holds a population of 61,135 and ranks as the eighth largest city within the state of Mato Grosso.

The city was founded on June 13, 1924, and achieved political independence on September 15, 1948. Geographically, Barra do Garças is positioned on the border between the states of Mato Grosso and Goiás, a location that makes the area a recognized geodesic center.
