Paranoá refers to a geographic area in Brasília, the capital city of Brazil, primarily defined by Lake Paranoá. This artificial lake was created during the construction of the city by damming the Paranoá River. Situated at an altitude of 1,000 metres (3,300 ft), the lake has a circumference of approximately 80 km (50 mi).
The shores of Lake Paranoá host several significant landmarks and residential districts. These include the Lago Sul and Lago Norte residential areas, the University of Brasília, the Olympic Center, and various sports clubs and restaurants. Additionally, the area contains numerous embassies and consulates, as well as the Palácio da Alvorada, which serves as the official residence of the president of Brazil.
