Maracanaú is a municipality located in the state of Ceará, Brazil. The city's name originates from the Tupi language and translates to "lagoon where maracanãs drink," a reference to the presence of these birds flying over the lagoons found within the local area.

The municipality covers a total area of 106.648 km² (41.177 sq mi) and has a population of 251,613 inhabitants.
