Jacobina is a city located in the Centro Norte Baiano mesoregion of Bahia, Brazil. Situated in the northwest region of the state at the extreme north of the Chapada Diamantina, it lies approximately 330 kilometers from the capital city of Salvador. The municipality was officially founded on July 28, 1722, and has a current population of 82,590.
The town is characterized by its diverse natural geography, which includes mountains, hills, lakes, rivers, springs, and waterfalls. It is historically known as the "City of Gold," a nickname derived from the gold mines that originally attracted pioneers from São Paulo during the early seventeenth century.
