Manaus is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Amazonas. Located in the east-central part of the state, it serves as the center of the Manaus metropolitan area, which is the largest metropolitan area in Brazil's North Region by urban landmass.

The city is situated near the confluence of the Negro and Amazon rivers. It ranks as the seventh-largest city in Brazil, with an estimated 2024 population of 2,279,686 spread across a land area of approximately 11,401 km2 (4,402 sq mi). Manaus is one of only two cities within the Amazon rainforest that has a population exceeding one million people, the other being Belém.
