União dos Palmares is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Alagoas. As of 2020, the city had a population of 65,790 and covers an area of approximately 428 square kilometers (165 square miles). The surrounding agricultural landscape is primarily dedicated to cattle ranching and sugar cane production.

The city was originally known as União because it served as a rail junction connecting the states of Alagoas and Pernambuco. In 1944, the name was officially changed to União dos Palmares to honor its historical significance. Today, the area is an increasing destination for domestic and foreign tourists interested in its natural features and heritage sites.

Notable landmarks within the region include the Parque Nacional Serra da Barriga and the Parque Memorial Quilombo dos Palmares. These areas are protected sites that highlight the city's historical and environmental importance.
