Ekpe, also known as Mgbe or Egbo, is a West African secret society primarily located in Nigeria and Cameroon. It flourishes chiefly among the Ejagham people but is also practiced by several other ethnic groups, including the Efik, Bahumono, Ibibio, Uruan, Oron, and those of Arochukwu in Abia State.
The society maintains a presence beyond West Africa, with established communities in the diaspora, specifically in Cuba and Brazil. While it was historically significant, Ekpe remains active at the beginning of the 21st century, though its role has shifted primarily to ceremonial functions.
