Gitara is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Euphorbiaceae. The genus contains a single species, known as Gitara nicaraguensis.
This plant is characterized as either a shrub or a tree and is native to the tropical Americas. Its geographic range extends from Guatemala through Central America and into northern South America, reaching as far as Bolivia and northern Brazil.
