Al-Malikiyah, also known as Derik, is a city located in northeastern Syria. It serves as the administrative center of a district within the Al-Hasakah Governorate, situated in the northeastern corner of the country. The town is positioned approximately 20 km west of the Tigris River, which forms the triple border between Syria, Turkey, and Iraq.

The city is an administrative hub for a subdistrict consisting of 108 localities with a combined population of 125,000. While census data from 2004 recorded a population of approximately 26,311 residents, other estimates place the current population at roughly 39,000. The area is characterized by its diverse demographic makeup, inhabited by Kurds, Assyrians, Arabs, and Armenians. Additionally, the district serves as the location where the Syrian Democratic Council convenes.
