Djibo

Burkina Faso

Djibo is a town located in northern Burkina Faso. It serves as the capital city of the Soum Province and is situated approximately 203 km (126 mi) north of the national capital, Ouagadougou, and about 45 km (28 mi) from the border with Mali.

The town was founded in the 16th century and has a long history as a regional center, having served as the capital of a regional state in the 17th century and later as the seat of an emirate in the 18th century. Today, Djibo is known for its animal market, and the primary ethnic group residing in the area is the Fulani.
