Ouagadougou, also known as Wagadugu, is the capital and largest city of Burkina Faso. It serves as the nation's primary administrative, communications, cultural, and economic center. The name Ouagadougou follows the French orthography commonly used in former French African colonies, and it is frequently shortened to "Ouaga" in local usage.
The city has a population of 2,415,266 as of 2019. Residents of the city are referred to as ouagalais.
