Dendermonde is a city located in the Flemish province of East Flanders in Belgium. The municipality includes the city of Dendermonde as well as the towns of Appels, Baasrode, Grembergen, Mespelare, Oudegem, Schoonaarde, and Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde.
The city is situated at the mouth of the river Dender where it flows into the Scheldt. Historically, Dendermonde is known for a long-standing folkloric feud with the town of Aalst, which lies further south along the same river and dates back to the Middle Ages.
