Comilla, officially spelled Cumilla, is a metropolis located on the banks of the Gumti River in eastern Bangladesh. Historically significant as one of the cities of ancient Bengal, it formerly served as the capital of the Tripura kingdom.
The city serves as a division centered district with surrounding areas providing diverse employment opportunities. The Comilla City Corporation covers an area of 53.04 square kilometers, while urban areas outside this jurisdiction are considered suburbs within a metro area estimated to have a population of 691,000 in 2025. Key infrastructure includes the Bibir Bazar land port located 5 km from the city and the Comilla Export Processing Zone (EPZ), which replaced the former Comilla Airport in the Dulipara area.
