Paltan is a thana, or administrative precinct, located in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. It serves as a significant geographical landmark within the city, frequently cited as the central point that divides "Old Dhaka" from "New Dhaka."
The area was officially established as its own thana on June 27, 2005, by then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The formation of Paltan Thana involved incorporating portions of the neighboring Motijheel thana.
