Lokbatan is a settlement and municipality located within the city of Baku, Azerbaijan. It currently has a population of approximately 41,365 residents. The municipality encompasses three distinct settlements: Lokbatan, Shubany, and Heybat.
The area is notable for its geological and industrial history, specifically as the site of a large mud volcano and a historic oilfield. It holds historical significance in cinematography, as one of the first moving pictures filmed in Azerbaijan was a recording of an oil well blowout during the 1930s. Additionally, the region's mud volcano is known for producing spectacular flames of natural gas, which were notably observed in October 2001.
