Whitwarta is a small town located in South Australia, situated approximately 100 km north of the state capital, Adelaide. It is positioned beside a pronounced bend in the Wakefield River.
The name Whitwarta translates to "freshwater," referring to the freshwater springs found along the river's curve. These springs provided a constant supply of water in an otherwise dry region, making the area a suitable location for settlement. The village currently has a population of approximately 20 people.
