Vimy Ridge

Australia

The Battle of Vimy Ridge was a significant military engagement during the First World War. It took place in the Pas-de-Calais department of France as part of the larger Battle of Arras.

The conflict involved four divisions of the Canadian Corps from the First Army fighting against three divisions of the German 6th Army. The battle served as the opening engagement of the Nivelle Offensive and was strategically designed to draw German reserves away from French forces, facilitating a subsequent French offensive along the Aisne and the Chemin des Dames ridge.
